It’s the 44th anniversary of the eruption of Mount St. Helens, which is visible just a few blocks away from my home. We see her flat top each time we cross the Willamette on the St. Johns bridge.
Harry R. Truman, an American businessman, bootlegger, and prospector who lived near Mount St. Helens, died on that day. He said, “If the mountain goes, I'm going with it…You couldn't pull me out with a mule team. That mountain's part of Truman and Truman's part of that mountain.”
